Darren Miller to lead ARENA for a third term
The Albanese Government is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Darren Miller as CEO of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
Mr Miller will commence his third three-year term on 27 August 2024 after leading ARENA since 2018.
The Government is announcing Mr Miller’s re-appointment now to ensure certainty and continuity for ARENA during a period of substantial growth, including delivery of the Government’s $2 billion Hydrogen Headstart program.
Since joining ARENA, Mr Miller has overseen the commitment of over $940 million for more than 245 projects.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen welcomed Mr Miller’s re-appointment.
“Darren has done a tremendous job leading ARENA through a new strategic approach optimising the electricity transition and will continue its success accelerating clean energy innovation to move Australia toward net zero,” Minister Bowen said.
“ARENA’s work is pivotal to this Government’s agenda to transform Australia into a renewable energy superpower.”
Since its 2012 inception, ARENA has unlocked almost $10 billion of investment in Australia’s renewable energy sector by providing $2.31 billion in grant funding. It continues to play a critical role in the development of emerging renewable energy and other low emissions technologies.

Mr Miller has 30 years of professional experience across a range of sectors, with recent experience in renewable energy and electricity retail. He has been the Chief Executive Officer of ARENA for over 5 years and prior to that held Chief Executive positions in start-up companies and has experience in investment advisory roles. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and is a Chartered Accountant.
