Strengthening regional cooperation

Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen this week visited China and India to progress cooperation with two of the world’s biggest economies.

In Beijing, Minister Bowen attended the 9th Australia-China Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change with China’s Minister for Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu.

The Ministers discussed enhanced cooperation on transparency-related issues and committed to undertake new cooperation on adaptation.

Minister Bowen met with Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, in New Delhi at the first Renewable Energy Partnership Ministers Meeting under the elevated India-Australia Renewable Energy Partnership. 

The two Ministers discussed key elements of the Partnership, including the delivery of the India-Australia Green Hydrogen Taskforce recommendations report, provided to governments by the independent Taskforce to inform future opportunities.

They welcomed progress on establishing the India-Australia Rooftop Solar Training Academy in Gujarat. 

The Ministers also met with prominent renewable energy industry representatives from both countries to discuss future collaboration opportunities under the partnership. 

At the 5th India-Australia Energy Dialogue, also in New Delhi, Minister Bowen and India’s Minister for Power Manohar Lal reinforced their commitment to advance cooperation and promote dialogue on energy and enabling technologies. 

The Minister was pleased to deliver the annual oration for the Australia India Institute and to be joined on this trip by members of the Business Council of Australia, the Smart Energy Council, and Australian universities to highlight the opportunities for Australian business and industry in the global energy transition.
