Free solar advice for Australian households and businesses
Australian households and small businesses now have access to a free online solar PV savings calculator, backed by a $946,399 investment from the Australian Government and tailored to individual property needs.
Led by the University of New South Wales and the Australian PV Institute and designed by engineers, the SunSPOT tool has been upgraded to provide bespoke guidance on the ideal solar PV and battery set ups for homes and small business premises.
Announcing the program expansion, Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Jenny McAllister said the tool would give people considering rooftop solar more confidence to make the move to renewable energy.
“The not-for-profit SunSPOT solar calculator will allow even more Australians to unlock long-term savings on household electricity bills,” Assistant Minister McAllister said.
“Australia has stepped up in the global transition to renewables with one in three households now using solar energy to save on energy bills and reduce their carbon footprints.
“The Australian Government has backed this tool to promote integrity and transparency across the industry, because we understand we have a crucial role to play as a trusted and independent voice in the solar education space.
“We want to make sure consumers can proceed with confidence, avoiding dishonest operators as well as ensuring their personal data will not be shared with sales companies as they make the switch to solar energy.”
The Australian Government is also developing a Solar Consumer Guide which will provide further guidance for consumers during their switch to solar.
The guide will incorporate feedback from key industry stakeholders and is expected to be launched in mid-2023.
