Doorstop interview at Parliament House

JENNY MCALLISTER: This sitting week, our government plans to continue our work to deliver the change that Australians voted for. Of course, we are progressing negotiations on the Safeguard Mechanism, arrangements to make sure that our largest emitters of greenhouse gases bring down those emissions over time. And each day brings us closer to the day when the Parliament will resolve this. This was a key issue for Australians at the election. They delivered a Parliament that, for the first time in a long time, is ready to bring emissions down. And we're looking forward to working across the Parliament to bring this change through and bring it into legislation. Our legislation to provide homes for people who need them will also be before the Senate. This is an important reform, 30,000 new, affordable homes for the people who need them most. An important reform that can do an awful lot of good. We'll be progressing our plans for pay equity, legislation that makes it clearer the obligations on employers to make sure that they are closing the pay gap. And, of course, the National Reconstruction Fund. We hope to pass this, an opportunity to support manufacturing businesses, particularly in the regions, providing stable and steady employment opportunities and a strong economy for all Australians. Australians voted for a better government, for a government that would respond to their aspirations for security and stability. Our intention this week, as in all weeks, is to deliver that change.
