Expressions of Interest open: Murray-Darling Basin Community Committee
The Australian Government is calling for Expressions of Interest from community members to nominate for the Murray–Darling Basin Community Committee (BCC).
The Basin Community Committee is an important source of independent, community advice to the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and the Ministerial Council on wide ranging issues relating to water management in Australia’s biggest river system.
Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek has announced that nominations for the BCC vacancies will be open for a period of six weeks.
Up to 8 vacancies will be filled in this round, with appointments to commence in early 2024. The Murray–Darling Basin Authority will appoint the new members following a recruitment process.
The committee consists of up to 16 representatives who are selected based on their expertise or interest in water use, water management, First Nations water, and local government matters.
The Basin Community Committee meets face-to-face three to four times per year in Basin locations and regularly meets with community and industry groups to build a Basin-wide perspective.
The BCC is an advisory committee under the Water Act 2007 and members are appointed by the Murray–Darling Basin Authority for 3-year terms.
Nominations close at 5pm on 11 May 2023. Information is available from https://mdbacareers.nga.net.au/
