He will deliver remarks at the Ministerial roundtable on tripling renewables and doubling energy efficiency and represent the Prime Minister at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit.
He will also attend a high-level roundtable on energy to advance climate mitigation action and a panel on Pacific Political Climate Change Champions to elevate Pacific voices and strategic engagement at COP.
COP29 will take place from November 11 to 22.
Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will lead the Australian delegation and attend in the second week.
Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Josh Wilson said:
“Scientists expect 2024 to surpass last year as the hottest on record, and the impacts of climate change have already resulted in temperature extremes and storms that are more frequent and severe.
“Australia will continue to show leadership on climate action by supporting co-operative efforts to drive down global emissions and combat the worst impacts of climate change.
“Pacific nations are particularly vulnerable to climate change. We want to continue to work together with them and other nations to help deliver global solutions.”
COP is the annual summit of all states that are parties to the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
